1. Do I need a visa to enter Bhutan?

Visitors from all countries, except India, require a visa.

Visitors from Bangladesh and the Maldives can apply for a visa upon arrival.

Indian nationals need a permit and must hold an Indian passport or voter ID card.

Swiss and Thai diplomatic passport holders can get a visa upon entry.

2. How do I apply for a visa?

When you book your tour with Big Bhutan, we will process your visas for you.

3. Are there any nationalities restricted from entering Bhutan?

No, there are no restricted nationalities.

 

4. How long does it take to issue my visa?

A correctly submitted visa application takes up to five days to process.

5. What is the cost of the visa?

There's a one-time fee of US$40, payable when submitting your visa application along with the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF).

 

6. How long can I stay in Bhutan with my visa?

The visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days from the date of entry.

7. Can I extend my visa while in Bhutan?

Yes, you can extend it online before it expires, with fees payable online as well.

 

8. Can I use my international credit card to pay for the visa/SDF online?

Yes, international credit cards are accepted, but notify your bank in advance.

 

9. Is travel insurance mandatory?

Yes, it's mandatory for all visitors, except those from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives.

 

10. If I want to drive my own car into Bhutan, how much does it cost?

There's a daily charge of Nu. 4,500 per car, and a guide is mandatory.

 

11. How do I get to Bhutan?

Bhutan has an international airport in Paro, with flights from various destinations. Private jets and charters can also fly in with approvals.

 

12. Are face masks required in Bhutan?

Face masks are not required except in hospitals. It's recommended to carry one.

 

13. What are the current COVID-19 regulations in Bhutan?

Vaccination is not required for entry. No quarantine unless symptomatic. Testing may be done if needed.

 

14. What kind of accommodation is available in Bhutan?

Bhutan offers a range from luxury hotels to traditional homestays.

 

15. Is it safe to travel in Bhutan?

Bhutan is safe with low crime, but be cautious around stray dogs and follow safety guidelines.

17. Will my SDF be refunded if I cancel my trip?

Yes, SDF will be refunded for canceled trips, minus bank charges, after departure.

Yes, there's one at Paro International Airport and others at border entry points.

Currency exchange is available at the airport, banks, larger hotels, and authorized businesses in Thimphu.

 

20. How much cash can I bring into Bhutan?

You can bring up to US$10,000 in cash.

 

21. Can I use credit cards and ATMs in Bhutan?

Visa and Mastercard are accepted, and digital wallet apps are widely used.

 

22. Is there good internet connection and Wi-Fi in Bhutan?
